PARLIAMENT OF AUSTRALIA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Reporting to Parliament about gender representation requirements Part 3 Section ^11 Part 3—1 Reporting to Parliament about gender 2 representation requirements 3 4 ^11 Reporting on progress in achieving gender representation 5 requirements 6 (1) The Prime Minister must, as soon as practicable after the end of 7 each transition year, cause to be tabled in each House of the 8 Parliament a report on the steps that have been taken during the 9 financial year to achieve the required percentages mentioned in 10 paragraphs ^5(a), (b) and (c). 11 (2) For the purposes of subsection (2), a transition year is a financial 12 year that ends: 13 (a) after the commencement of this Part; and 14 (b) before the third polling day that occurs after the 15 commencement of Part 1. 16 ^12 Reporting on failures to comply with gender representation 17 requirements 18 (1) This section applies if: 19 (a) the requirement in subsection ^6(1), ^7(1) or ^8(1) is not 20 complied with in relation to an appointment to a particular 21 office; or 22 (b) the requirement in subsection ^7(1) or ^8(1) does not apply 23 in relation to an appointment to a particular office because of 24 subsection ^7(2) or ^8(2) (insufficient vacant offices). 25 (2) The Prime Minister must cause to be tabled in each House of the 26 Parliament, within 5 sitting days of that House after the day of the 27 appointment, a statement explaining: 28 (a) the reasons why the requirement was not complied with in 29 relation to the appointment; and 30 (b) the steps that will be taken to ensure compliance with the 31 requirement for future appointments to that office.
